A bracelet in circular Netting !

Here is a bracelet in circular netting that I made recently for a challenge  . I chose subdued colors in silver to offset the bright colored coral beads. The turquoise colored glass beads add a touch of  contrast, inspired by the vintage silver Himalayan jewellery that I`m so fond of.
 Thank You Coco for the lovely pattern. It was fun creating this piece. A big thank you to the team of Perlesdentelles team for hosting this workshop!

Experimenting with wire wrapping - A bohemian necklace !

Of late , I am in a mood to experiment with different wire work techniques and this is another one of my projects   . It was fun practicing making those tiny little drops and believe me there were many in this necklace !  (and as my son rightly pointed out , lot  practice would make me perfect ! ) . Then came the wired resin beads and finally assembling the links . Was planning to leave it as a simple chain but realized that the bunch of drops would not lie properly if I did so , and I had to add a pendant .
   

 The pendant was a little difficult for me as I was not able to manipulate the shape easily , ( it was first time for me after all ) but  the frame turned out well in the end . I embellished it with a coral color glass bead and added the drops at the base to give it an ethnic look to go with the necklace .

 So this is how I made this piece . But I wonder , do you design the link chain first and then move on to the pendant or vice versa ? Would love to hear from you about how you found this piece , and do drop by for I have another exciting project waiting to be showcased .....

Deep inside the sea grows my garden ! ........ A crochet necklace

There is nothing more delightful than immersing myself in what interests me the most   . Making something new to wear .But the  unbearable heat and the frequent power cuts seems to have dried up my ability to do any beading . Sitting over the table , eyes bent and sweating ,beading  in this terrible heat  , is the last thing I want to do right now . So in order to keep my hands busy,  I thought of  trying something different , like  crochet . The ease with which I can work  and the lightness of yarn ( no difficult stuff to make me sweat ) is what prompted me to use this technique for my project .

 

    Since I am drawn to the cool water at this time , my inspiration has been the cool waters of the sea and my imagination took me to the depths of the ocean  filled with the wonders of the underwater world. And a beautifully blooming garden in the depths of the ocean  !!

 The project has been a very quick one , for it has taken lesser time than I thought it would . I had not forgotten my crochet skills after all and once I started , my needle just flew . The corals  turned out better than I thought , and I loved making them so much that I plan to make another necklace just with these crocheted corals .

Beachcombing......................................!

On a recent and exciting trip to Bangkok and Pattaya , I decided to enjoy  myself  walking down the beach looking for treasures in the sand . While the other people were busy spending time in all the water sports that the Coral island had to offer , I spent a lovely time looking for washed away bits of coral and stones that I could use in my jewellery and beaded creations and capture that lovely time forever !

Wind , sun and surf  galore ...... my son para-sailing at Pattaya . Adventure sports not for me , my heart was in my mouth for the entire duration of the time my teenage son spent going around the sea!

 Clear blue waters , a really tempting sight for all those waterbirds , but for me , the washed out shells and other materials was more fascinating .....

Treasures in hand , I walked the beach looking for more findings from the sea .

Tiny coral bits , no more than an inch in length were in abundunce , and I tried to pick those with at least two or more branches.

Lovely patterns on these corals , arent there ?

 

Washed out pebbles almost perfectly flattened by the waves . Our guide was highly amused at my fascination for them . She even helped me pick a pair of them . The black triangle and the mottled brown beside it are her finds and she picked up the best in the lot for me !

 Fascinated with my treasures , I`m now back home waiting to find time to create something out of these lovely goodies .

Some more Ganesha Pendants !

Here are a couple of pendants from my Ganesha collection .

This one I have created using pearls , gold foil beads , jade green malachite beads ,and carved coral Ganesha idol. I thought it would make a lovely focal piece for my coral mangalsutra that I have made for my previous post  " Another Treasure from the Sea - Creations in  coral " ( here ) . So I thought of  re-stringingthe necklace and add the newly created pendant in the center........... but after uploading the picture I realized that the beading wire that I had used is visible where I had joined a new one and that will not do !  . And so ......... I have decided to make it again .

And in this one though the center Ganesh  idol is identical , I used a different technique to make the necklace. I love collecting Ganesha`s and since I had three idols of same size I decided that I would use all three in different ways to create jewellery .

 Somehow the combination of lusturous pearls , coral ,  and gold really looked good together and so I made this one , using bead weaving technique slightly different from the first one . And I made the  loop  big enough to go through a gold chain .
  My plan was to complete the entire collection for Ganesh Chaturthi but I was slow in completing these two pieces as I was working on another designer  necklace that I will be posting soon .

Another Creation in Coral

Here`s a quick project that I made for a friend . I really loved the coral coloured beads , though  I was not able to capture the right colour with my camera . ( A photography workshop should definately be on my priority list ! )

But being a simple project , it finished fast giving me the satisfication of a Task Completed !

Another Treasure from the Sea - Creations in coral

I love the colors of natural corals. The vast variety of corals available is mind boggling  . Be it the vibrant orange of the natural coral or the subtle pinkish hue of the creamish coral , I just love them ! Stashed away in my trinket box , I found a couple of  necklaces I had strung a couple of years ago . . Keeping it rustic and simple on purpose , I had created  these to go with my sarees and I love wearing them  .

  In many regions of India , married women consider it auspicious to wear coral . It is teamed up with the traditional black beads and gold  for the Mangalsutra ( or the sacred thread , if translated )

 Taking the traditional and symbolic pendant from the Southern region of India , I have strung  this Mangalsutra

Real coral tube beads are used with black handcrafted Indian  beads and the pendants are from Kerala.

Seed bead and gold beads are made into a cord using square stitch .Two glass beads in Coral colour add a touch of  ethnique to this Thali pendant fromTamil Nadu.in India

This one has been made with glass beads in coral and black with a gold pendant from Coorg.
