Deep inside the sea grows my garden ! ........ A crochet necklace

http://kalaabhushan.blogspot.in/

There is nothing more delightful than immersing myself in what interests me the most   . Making something new to wear .But the  unbearable heat and the frequent power cuts seems to have dried up my ability to do any beading . Sitting over the table , eyes bent and sweating ,beading  in this terrible heat  , is the last thing I want to do right now . So in order to keep my hands busy,  I thought of  trying something different , like  crochet . The ease with which I can work  and the lightness of yarn ( no difficult stuff to make me sweat ) is what prompted me to use this technique for my project .

Since I am drawn to the cool water at this time , my inspiration has been the cool waters of the sea and my imagination took me to the depths of the ocean  filled with the wonders of the underwater world. And a beautifully blooming garden in the depths of the ocean  !!

The project has been a very quick one , for it has taken lesser time than I thought it would . I had not forgotten my crochet skills after all and once I started , my needle just flew . The corals  turned out better than I thought , and I loved making them so much that I plan to make another necklace just with these crocheted corals .

So how did you find this necklace ? Do drop in a line for I shall be waiting to hear from you

Till next time then ,

happily crocheting for now

Necklace - `Deep Sea Treasures`

jewellery with shells

statement jewellery
While  making my necklace Samudra , I struck upon the idea to make another necklace , a more formal one this time , inspired by the Sea . Since the components I had were more or less off white in color and natural , I decided on using one of the shells from my collection as the focal piece  . It was easy to choose the simple white one from the lot , as it had the thinnest shell , (which would make my task of drilling a hole quite easy or so I thought)

But drilling a hole into the shell proved to be quite an ardous task as I did not have a proper drill . Making do with the bead reamer that I had , I carefully cracked the shell with the tip of the reamer , praying it would not be damaged , as it was a new one that I had got recently . Carefully widening the hole and making it round I inserted the metal chain and created the tassel using vintage glass leaves , mother of pearl , and crystal beads , along with pearls.

It was fun to make the tassel as I desperately need to perfect my wire wrapping skills and this task would give me that chance .  To add a touch of  drama , I added the clasp not at the back , but in front . It would also serve the purpose of  holding and balancing the heavy tasseled shell .

And so , here`s my newest necklace  Deep Sea Treasures . I hope you have as much fun reading this post as much as I had creating this , as I now feel slightly more confident of using mixed media in my jewellery creations !

Do drop in a line as always , it means a lot to me !

bye for now

Inspiration And Creativity - Thanks to Nina Designs !

I`m thrilled at the box of goodies I received from  Nina Designs  last week . When I opened the box and saw the contents inside , I gasped in pleasure . The most beautifully finished metal charms , silk ribbons , clasp and ear wires lay inside ( things that I had only seen on the net ! ) .  My mind is whirling with ideas ,  I can`t wait  to use  them in my creations  . The variety of jewellery that can be made  with these components is so much that I  can`t wait to try out all that my mind has imagined  and  make different jewellery pieces.

Here`s what the box of goodies contained .

Jewellery components from Nina Designs

It`s an honor to be selected as a blog partner , and am looking forward to this challenge , Beginning with this post I`m going to showcase the jewellery I have made using the components that came in the box , and here is the first necklace which I have named

                                                          Samudra - (meaning The Ocean)

Unique Jewellery inspired by the Sea , ocean inspired necklace

The Turquoise Blues Silk ribbon from  Nina Designs  reminded me of the deep blue ocean and so I have tried to depict the  deep sea bed with scattered corals , shells , seaweeds and even a flower made from shell !

Collection of materials used include Silk ribbon from Nina designs , and , hemp cord , brass ring , mother-of pearl sequins, handmade Indian glass beads, stitched shell flowers from my own stash .

Necklace Samudra - Jewellery inspired by the Sea

I stitched the shells to make a flower and attached shisha (glass mirror ) in the center . Cutting the hemp cord I mounted it on the brass ring a left over from my old discarded handbag using macrame technique . Stringing the beads , the ends have been secured using a simple knot .

Stitching the flowers in place I added the silk ribbon to complete my necklace  Samudra

Do`nt you think the Silk ribbon is perfect to go with the theme ? and does`nt  it remind you too , of a beautiful  garden deep inside the Ocean ?

Looking forward to hearing from you ,
